Welcome to Acanthus. Simply put, it is a vanity site. It is a place to share with my friends, my family, and people who are interested in the same things I am. If you're not one of those people, you'll know soon enough when you drift away in boredom; if you are one, I welcome you to my little corner of the Web.
Just what is an acanthus, anyway? It's a thorny plant from the Mediterranean region which has rather decorative leaves. In stylized form they can be found as decoration on Corinthian columns, decorative woodcarving, the stonework of cathedrals, leather carving, and the background of this web page, which is based on a textile pattern by 19th-century designer William Morris. Wikipedia can tell you more.
The photographs you will find on these pages, including the page title graphics, are all my own work. No, I'm not a professional, just an amateur with a digital camera and a readiness to take many pictures of a subject to find that one that looks good. I've put a lot of work into getting these pictures, and I would like to retain the privilege of showing them off; please do not copy, embed, or hotlink them. If you're interested in using any of my photos, please contact me for permission.
